Sea Beyond: Royal Caribbean Makes Waves at Duggal Greenhouse Tech Reveal

    12 Oct 2017

The innovative spirit of Royal Caribbean Cruises was on full display at the Duggal Greenhouse, where the global cruise company hosted its three-day “Sea Beyond” event sponsored by EY.

A former Navy shipbuilding facility transformed into an awe-inspiring events venue, the Greenhouse was a beyond-perfect match for Royal Caribbean’s invitation-only tech showcase. Guests were immersed in 34,000 square feet of digital technology, from augmented and virtual reality to facial recognition and, as Fast Company aptly described, “apps that can see through walls.”

“At the event, guests were asked to download an app, snap a selfie, and turn on their Bluetooth,” Fast Company reported. “Once those steps were taken, the techie magic took over. Guests were greeted by name, thanks to Bluetooth signaling. Pull up the app’s drink menu, make your choice, and a server delivers it wherever you are in the crowd thanks to a face-recognition system.”

The exhibition of technological leadership simultaneously served as a sneak peek into Royal Caribbean’s vision of “a world where travel frustrations have disappeared, erased by technology that is transforming cruise ships from stem to stern.” The app and other products seen at the Greenhouse will begin to appear on select Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruise lines in 2018, and are expected to be fully integrated across the company’s 48-ship fleet by 2020.

“The pace of change is relentless—and so are we,” said Richard D. Fain, Royal Caribbean Cruises chairman and CEO, in a press release. “We are harnessing a range of technologies to enhance every facet of our business, every minute of our guests’ vacations, and every inch of the ships we build.”

Duggal Visual Solutions and the Duggal Greenhouse applaud Royal Caribbean’s ingenuity. In addition to hosting Sea Beyond, we also produced supporting graphics and signage to bring the event to life.
